Yarm

We awoke to find that the pope had died, on Easter Monday too! We all had a good nights sleep, thanks to Misty being in our room, and all had a nice lie-in. Kathy went off to walk Sam, armed with her newly won gate opening power and the knowledge of a field just over the road. She returned after a good walk and we all breakfasted and prepared for the day.

Alex wanted to do a very hilly run, and Ian wanted to go with him for some reason, so they decided to start from Lord Stones. They knew the parking was OK there, and a little bit about the route. They set off in high spirits in Kathy’s car, armed with newly won gate opening power.

The rest of us decided to take a look around the nearest town, Yarm. We wanted an easy stroll for Misty. It was a bit chillier than it had been as we departed, Kathy doing the open seseme act. We had chosen a car park to head for, but after negotiating a very busy Yarm High Street, and a gap between shops, we found the narrow entrance was not something I was prepared to risk in Ian’s car! We headed for the back up car park. Much better, easy access and huge bays.

A narrow car park entrance

We had a nice wander around the town and down by the banks of the river, Misty was in a particularly joyous, bouncy mood.

Yarm

While walking by the river we had spotted a nice looking pub, so decided to pop in for a spot of lunch. It was very dog friendly, and both Misty and Sam were very well behaved. We had fish finger sandwiches and a drink and put the world to rights.

The Blue Ball

Half way through another dog came and sat nearby. It was whining and barking. Misty and Sam just looked distainfully at it. How uncouth!

As we wandered back to the car it began to rain, and Vicky got a phone call from Alex. ‘Where are you? We are outside the house, and it’s raining, and we have no keys.’

We returned not long after and heard the tale of the run. Turns out Ian was not fit enough to run up hills, and he ended up walking at some points. And I’m not sure Alex really wanted to wait for Ian. But seems they had a goodish time.

Running up that hill

We wasted a couple of hours staring at the small iPad screen watching The Millers get beaten once again, before Ian and I threw ourselves into our customary Gousto tea, and the young ones hot tubbed. Cauliflower curry for the veggies, and lamb meatballs for the carnivores. We didn’t even play a game after that, some chatted and some (mainly me) dozed, before we retired for the night.

Observations

The carpet in the living room must have been treated as both the red wine Misty spilt, and Sam’s blood, came off very easily.

Easter egg chocolate does not kill dogs

Silver paper does not kill dogs

Staying in a hot tub for hours does not kill people

Smugness is the top emotion when your dogs are the best behaved in the pub

There is a lot of work to be done at Rotherham United

My bet for new pope is Kevin the Camerlengo
