Roseberry Topping

After another lovely nights sleep due to Misty being in with us, we awoke to another lovely day. I went out as usual with Kathy and Sam for the walk around the rape seed field, and came back to breakfast pizza. Very nice.

Alex had decided he wanted to go for a run, and I had been planning a walk up Roseberry topping ever since we knew we were coming on this holiday. We were able to combine the two and headed off for the car park at the base of the topping. Alex set off to run up and then carry on for another 23 km. We set off to walk up the easy route that we had discovered on the Internet. This involved a steady climb up through some gorgeous bluebell woods before we came out of the trees with not much further to go to the summit.

The  Bluebell Woods

The last section was a bit steep but well paved and then we were at the top. On a clear day, you can see forever. But today we couldn’t even see the sea due to some cloud and fret.  Never mind, we took some photos at the trig then found a nice sheltered spot amongst the many young people to eat our feast of mini cheddars and mini mars bars.

The easy way down

Steep steps

We found another easy route down, and marvelled at the hard route being ascended and descended by tiny children and babies. Vicky and I really are wusses! The way we went down seemed a lot steeper than the way we went up, but before long we were back at the car park. We got news from Alex that he was about 30mins away, and finding the coffee van closed, we headed for the pub. We started outside, where Sam was delighted to find a  beautiful Lady Beagle, then, when the weather turned chilly, went indoors. Dogs were very welcome. Not long after Alex arrived, hardly out of breath,  declaring his run one of his favourites of all time.

A really good run

We were running a bit late by this point so we hotfooted it back and leapt in the shower. We had a meal booked for the girls birthdays at an Italian restaurant In Yarm called Cena. We arrived just in time and were seated at a nice table by the pizza oven. I do like watching a pizza oven. The meal was excellent and we all ate far too much. I even remembered a food photo!

As you can imagine, we were all pretty tired when we got back so it was a quick nightcap then bed.

Observations

I can recommend breakfast pizza

Roseberry Topping is a lovely walk

It’s great to go to a pub after a walk
