The Seaside

It was Kathy’s 34th birthday today. How can I be so old?! I got up and went on the Sam walk with her. As we approached the Abracadabra gate I whipped out my phone and dialled the open seseme number. The gate would not open, Kathy had to do it. I must have been deleted in favour of one of the young whipersnappers. The walk was very pleasant though. Round a field of rapeseed in the sun.

Back at the house, Ian had prepared a delicious full English which we tucked into with gusto. Then it was time to open presents, and don party hats

Birthday high jinks

The outing for the day was to Saltburn by the sea, and all six of us and two dogs managed to squeeze into Ian’s car. It’s very close to the house and we soon arrived and managed to find a free parking spot right at the top of the funicular railway.(Dogs allowed). Because of Mistys legs, Vicky, Alex and I rode it down, meeting the rest at the bottom.

Saltburn funicular

Misty was beside herself with glee when we got on the beach, dashing and running like a spritely puppy. It’s was lovely to see.

Family fun on Saltburn beach

After the beach exertions, we had a walk on the windy pier (dogs allowed).

The end of the pier

We then amused ourselves in the pier amusement’s (dogs allowed), where Ian picked up an air hockey injury.

We all rode the funicular up again, Misty and Sam behaving impeccably despite the presence of another dog in our carriage.

Next, we jumped back in the car and drove to Runswick Bay for a walk on the beach there. Once again Misty was beside herself with glee.

A drive over the moors finished off a wonderful day. We even came across a Sainsbury’s in Guisborough to top up on Vittels and petrol. All our Gousto meals having been extinguished, we let Kathy pick the takeaway. The man from Pizza Hut in Stockton on Tees was very quick and we all dug in with wild abandon.

Such was the days excitement, we were all too sleepy for games again, so Kathy requested some quiz questions. Ian was the first to crack and retire, the rest of us were not far behind.

Observations

Must take food photos.

Saltburn is a very lovely, twee, seaside resort.

Misty doesn’t get to enough different places any more.

Abracadabra gates are not the way to go.
